About the Training

    Asbestos is probably the most dangerous building material ever used. It was widely used by the construction industry, up until the year 2000, when it was banned.
    It can be found in lagging which is easy to identify, but is also in boarding, doors, floor tiles etc which is not easy to identify.
    Every year thousands of people fall ill and die because of exposure to asbestos.

    Who is this training for?

    The Control of Asbestos Regulations apply to employers, employees, self-employed persons and duty holders and covers all work where asbestos containing materials could be found. Every employer must ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos. This includes persons who work in maintenance, facilities and handy persons or anybody who may come into contact with or disturb asbestos containing materials (ACM).

    How is the training delivered?

    Online Training is through a secure portal - Individuals will be provided with dedicated access for 30 days.

    How will I be assessed?

    The course consists of 4 modules with questions at the end. The modules cover areas such as recognising asbestos, where it is used, minimising the risks and legislation about working with asbestos.
    You are given the chance to review all your answers at the end of each module before final submission and you will be given 3 attempts at each module to achieve a pass rate of 100%.

    By the end of the course you will be able to:



    • Understand why asbestos may be in the fabric of the building

    • Where to find the asbestos register

    • Know the likely areas that you could come into contact with asbestos

    • What to do if asbestos is found.
