Blog bits:

We are receiving an increase in bedbugs problems, due to people travelling more in their work and socially. Ring to discuss any problems you may have, remember this is not an indication of cleanliness of your home or personnel hygiene.

Paul Toplass - 22nd March 2010

We're close to finishing our busiest time of the year, and we've been taken aback by the numbers of businesses talking about their 'Scores on the Doors' and how many stars they've got. Some Councils have been running a star rating system for a while now and it is starting to hit home to some businesses now how important their reputation is. This seems to become more of an issue when a local newspaper runs a Freedom of Information request form a Council to find the best and worst premises. I'll be doing a talk on the impact of the Scores on the Doors next month in Loughborough. In the mean time, if any business would like our help to get the best star rating then please ring me on 07976 366510.

Dealing with Bedbugs, 24/7 in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire

A common pest once associated with unhygienic surroundings, is now prevalent due to increased travel and therefore spreading the bed bug from country to country. These bugs still occur with regularity, particularly in multi-occupancy buildings with rapid resident turnover, for example, hostels, hotels, holiday camps and blocks of flats. The early stages of the Bed bug (nymphs) are hard to detect with the naked eye, making it hard to identify an infestation before biting occurs.

The adult bug resembles a small brown disc, about 3.5mm long - the size of a match head. It is wingless but the legs are well developed and it can crawl up most vertical surfaces, e.g. bed legs. The elongated eggs are cemented in cracks or crevices close to the hosts (which for bed-bugs are humans).

The young resemble the adult and grow by moulting. Each nymphal stage needs one full meal of blood before it proceeds to the next stage. Fully-grown bed bugs can endure starvation for up to a year in some cases.

When dealing with these hardy pests it is important you gain professional help and advice as thorough searching and investigation is required. Failed treatments will occur if the accurate knowledge of the bed bug is absent.

REMEDY: Call us to carry out a survey and treatment with a 14 day residual insecticide.

Two treatments are now carried out due to resistance in bedbugs.
